Material Matching and Flexible Sealing in Scroll Compressors
সর্বশেষ কোম্পানির খবর Material Matching and Flexible Sealing in Scroll Compressors

In demanding cold storage and industrial refrigeration applications, scroll compressors frequently operate under high pressure differentials, with evaporating temperatures dipping to -30°C and condensing temperatures reaching +50°C. When pressure ratios exceed 6:1, gas bending forces and localized thermal expansion place massive stress on the scroll wraps.

Maintaining high volumetric efficiency under these extreme envelopes requires a combination of precise metallurgical tribology and dual-axis flexible sealing.

Tribological Matching: QT600-3 and HT300 Cast Irons

The mechanical interaction between the orbiting and fixed scrolls dictates both sealing integrity and component lifespan. Because the wraps experience continuous high-frequency oscillation, choosing dissimilar materials prevents metal-to-metal galling:

Orbiting Scroll: Machined from high-tensile ductile iron (Grade QT600-3), providing a tensile strength of ≥ 600MPa and a Brinell hardness rating of 190 to 240 HB. This ductile matrix delivers exceptional fatigue resistance against continuous dynamic forces.
Fixed Scroll: Engineered from high-density gray cast iron (Grade HT300) with a tensile strength of ≥ 300MPa. The flake graphite structure inherent in HT300 provides crucial self-lubricating qualities, high thermal conductivity, and superior vibration damping during flank contact.

To ensure uniform gas pocket geometry across all compression chambers, both scrolls undergo high-precision CNC profiling. Profile tolerances are held within a strict ± 3μm, with surface roughness kept to Ra ≤ 0.4μm.

Axial Tip Seals and Radial Flank Compliance

Controlling gas bypass across the scroll wraps under differential pressures up to 2.5 MPa requires a dynamic sealing approach:

Axial Tip Sealing: Continuous tip seal rings made from carbon-filled PTFE or PEEK rest inside micro-grooves along the wrap tips. Discharge back-pressure gas forces the seal ring upward against the opposing scroll base plate, maintaining an axial seal without excessive friction.
Radial Flank Compliance: Drive mechanisms utilize an eccentric swing-link arrangement. Centrifugal force and gas loads maintain micro-contact between the scroll flanks. If liquid refrigerant or debris enters the compression chamber, this radial flexibility lets the wraps separate briefly, preventing catastrophic mechanical damage.
Essential Controls for Long-Term Compressor Maintenance

Preserving these tight micro-tolerances over long operational lifecycles relies heavily on proper preventive compressor maintenance.

Facility operators must keep suction superheat strictly between 5K and 10K to prevent unevaporated liquid from washing away the protective oil film. Furthermore, oil viscosity must be monitored to ensure dynamic oil film thickness across the scroll contact surfaces never drops below 2μm.
